Verejny Park_Zcech Republic
Liberec, a city of 104,000 inhabitants, is located in the Czech Republic. It lies in the Lusatian Neisse region and is surrounded by the Jizera Mountains and the Ještěd-Kozákov Range. It is the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic.
In our design to revitalize the city center and reposition it within the surrounding region, we proposed several key objectives. In the city center, our primary ambition is to restore the existing urban fabric, housing, and public space, densifying the existing commercial program and adding a central park. Our ambitions for the transportation hub and industrial areas are based on developing a complex neighborhood design with a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational functions. A central element of this development is the incorporation of a robust cultural program, spearheaded by the development of a new theater.
The regeneration project for the city center’s shopping district was completed, and a new City Theatre opened in the former shipyard in 2015. A repurposed library building also opened in May 2016, another catalyst for the new city center.
