Landscape intervention in El Barranco de los Espectros, Librilla, Spain

The Barranco de los Espectros is located in the heart of a network of natural spaces of regional importance, which includes the Cordillera Espuña, the Guadalentín Valley, a new leisure center, the Arlequín Theater, community centers, offices, affordable housing and housing deluxe.

This park eloquently combines the evolving environmental and recreational needs of today’s society and is one of the four interconnected landscape projects of International Agency Landscape in this region. By coordinating these related projects and new architectural elements, the park transforms a collection of closely related functions into a cohesive common environment with a heightened sense of place.

In the heart of the ravine runs a seasonal watercourse.

A channel dug into the granite subsoil provides water for the basin: it is treated in a pleasant stream of crystalline waters coming from the mountain.

Throughout the site, the juxtaposition of ground levels provides opportunities for recreation and observation at different scales. The transverse pedestrian paths join the main nodes that enclose the open space, dividing the park into uneven sectors.

With the aspiration of creating an open space that is functional, progressive and poetic, the design looks to the future of the region.
