Dr. Félix Rodriguez de la Fuente Garden
The Félix Rodriguez de la Fuente public garden is currently one of the most important urban and infrastructure projects in the city. With a total area of 12,000 m2 and an investment of 700,000 euros, IAL has created a public space that dynamically celebrates the ancestral culture of the region. This garden is going to be the heart of the neighborhood, uniting the East and West sectors that were previously disconnected by old abandoned industrial buildings.
The landscaping proposal was awarded to us and our Director of Project Intelligence led the design team. This innovative proposal had the participation of a multidisciplinary team made up of ByNok in architecture (Islamabad, Pakistan) and our team of landscapers.
The main objective of this secluded contemporary garden is to distill the city’s unique historical, cultural and geographical legacy and also to respond to the challenges of building an enduring and beloved urban and public space.
Inspired by the poem Gardens full of wisdom, our design reflects the unique relationship that the city historically acquired as one of the focuses of agricultural production in the Mediterranean and its interaction with water. The enclave is framed
for different ecological habitats: the Mar Menor, the northwestern hills and the Torrevieja lagoons, all interspersed by the irrigated channels that cross the enormous agricultural plain.
El jardín público Félix Rodriguez de la Fuente es a la fecha uno de los proyectos urbanos y de infraestructura más importantes de la ciudad. Con un área total de 12.000 m2 y una inversión de 700.000 euros, IAL ha creado un espacio público que celebra de manera dinámica la cultura ancestral de la región. Este jardín va a ser el corazón del barrio, uniendo los sectores Este y Oeste que previamente estaban desconectados por antiguas construcciones industriales abandonadas.
La propuesta de paisajismo nos fue adjudicada y nuestro Director de Inteligencia de Proyectos lideró el equipo de diseño. Esta propuesta innovadora contó con la participación de un equipo multidisciplinario conformado por ByNok en arquitectura (Islamabad, Pakistán) y nuestro equipo de paisajistas.
El objetivo principal de este recoleto jardín contemporáneo es destilar el legado histórico, cultural y geográfico único que la ciudad tiene y también responder a los desafíos de construir un espacio urbano y público perdurable y querido.
Inspirado en el poema Jardines llenos de sabiduría, nuestro diseño recoge la relación única que la ciudad adquirió históricamente como uno de los focos de producción agrícola del mediterráneo y su interacción con el agua. El enclave se encuentra enmarcado
por diferentes hábitats ecológicos: El Mar Menor, las sieras del noroeste y las lagunas de Torrevieja, todo ello entreverado por los canales de regadío que surcan la inmensa llanura agrícola.
