Landscape intervention project in the garden of the Square of Spain

Current status and need for intervention

The last remodeling of the plaza caused the suppression of the garden, with its place usurped by unnecessary roof surface concrete pavers.
This huge surface acts as a heat during the day and a radiator heat during the summer night.

But the main problem is the lack of social features in this space held buried the garden that neighbors need and trees, now grown, are claiming, demolishing themselves concrete and pavers…Situation 

Green space is usurped by a gigantic concrete surface cover with concrete pavers, which is depriving residents of environmental resources, health and landscape to which they are entitled.

The set of Ficus microphylla fails to fulfill its function of providing shade bioclimatic estancial and thermoregulation in the absence of other indispensable elements in a public garden, with trees and users should interact.

 

Phase 1 of the performance

The largest Ficus are raising the cobblestones, which are an invasive element of garden space. Coincidentally are those who are next to the chapel: it indicates which is the designated phase 1 of the regeneration of the garden area.

The project objective is to expand the green surface, around the trunks of the trees, leaving the surface transit necessary, by surgery landscape trimming the existing pavement.

 

Final phase

The opposite end of the garden, regenerated in Phase 2, is built around the playground: 2 zones existing pavement rubber now joined into one, elliptical, synergistically inserted in the circulation system of the garden and provided with a cozy and protective plant perimeter.
An earthen trail run from there to the other end of the garden, allowing residents to enjoy a friendly, relaxed and natural path under the shade of the ficus

Overstory

The magnificent group of Ficus microphylla existing in the garden is the main opportunity for action, and is the major asset for intervention: this forest is already today a landmark landscape of the population, standing on housing the neighborhood and being visible and attractive from nearby Station Avenue

 

Shrub masses

Shrubs to implant will be inserted into solid perimeter distributed way along the edges of the garden, so that framed, will free the use and transit through the tufted meadow and help define the visual style performance through the use of perennial and subtropical fit to inhabit the partial shade and partial shade provided by the dense overstory species of Ficus microphylla.
The new playground will be closed by a laurel hedge and shrub Solid Edge that delimit, they protect and determine a gardener facilities purely character.

 

Urban Green to the rescue of the neighborhood

The huge concrete slab that is blocking an urban garden struggling to emerge and reclaim your space, will be replaced by the necessary prairie grass, intended to ensure oxygen, CO2 and pollutant trapping and offer solace and rest to people. For the success of the intervention will be inserted by planting sod precultured appropriate to live under the forest of ficus.

The pavement

After outlining the new composition of green garden spaces, areas of pavement and traffic estancial necessary are those of the existing pavement, reconfigured its limits and contours, after being cut.

 

The Playground

A large set of playgrounds, equipped with various activities for a broad arc ages will be implemented, this being a more effective and attractive formula that installing multiple unit elements
